Clare Duguid is a landscape artist based in Bradford on Avon, Wiltshire, whose work is rooted in a deep connection to the natural world and a desire to create moments of stillness. Although Clare studied art to degree level, she initially pursued a career in the corporate world. Throughout those years, she continued to nurture her creativity in her personal life, always finding ways to stay connected to art. In 2020, she returned to painting and drawing with renewed focus, finding in them both a meditative process and a creative challenge—a way to calm the ever-busy mind while exploring the subtleties of light, atmosphere, and form.

Working primarily in charcoal, ink, and oils, Clare begins by sketching and observing on location, closely noticing the shifting character of the landscape. Within the solace of her garden studio, she consults photographs and notes from her excursions, translating them into quiet, atmospheric paintings and drawings. Her recurring motifs—twisting trees, heavy skies, drifting clouds—reflect her love of atmospheric scenes that invite quiet reflection.

Clare’s fascination with the landscape is rooted in childhood holidays spent in the windswept expanses of Norfolk, and a deep appreciation for plants and growing things, nurtured by her parents’ love of gardening. These early influences instilled a lasting sensitivity to the rhythms of nature and a deep respect for both wild and cultivated spaces—an outlook that continues to shape her work today. Now living surrounded by the
Wiltshire countryside, Clare finds daily inspiration in the surrounding fields, woodlands, and ever-changing skies, echoing the quiet wonder she first experienced as a child.

Her soft, often muted palette evokes a sense of calm, nostalgia, and introspection. Through her work, Clare invites viewers to pause and reconnect—with nature, with themselves, and with a sense of
presence that can be easily lost in the pace of modern life. Her art is an
offering of quiet reflection; a gentle space to breathe and simply be.

Clare’s work is exhibited in galleries, art fairs, and online, where she connects with collectors across the UK and internationally. At the heart of her practice is a constant return to the land that inspires her—its shifting light, its stillness, and its enduring power to soothe and renew.
